In 1984 Magnolia Avenue Christian Church of Fort Worth chose to disband because of declining membership and the expense required to maintain their beautiful building. Looking to the future with unselfish vision, the Magnolia Avenue congregation was determined to use its death to bring about new life by dedicating the proceeds from the sale of their church to new church development in Tarrant County.

Subsequently, interim area minister Glen Brown used $139,000 from the Magnolia fund to purchase 8 acres of land, and a Project Advisory Comittee was formed to give birth to a new church in Keller. Committee members were Linda Bennett (WestWind charter member); the Rev. Dr. Philip Chacko (Chairperson); the Rev. Dr. Jim Hartley (Area Minister); Disciple ministers Roy Holt, Bud Beverly, Jerry Kirkpatrick and Mark Tintsman; and church lay leaders J.M. Gilley, Charles Frazier, Wanda Combs, Josh Josserand, and David Moppin.

In the summer of 1993, the Rev. Bruce Brown was called to be WestWind's founding pastor. Funded with new church development money from the Trinity-Brazos Area, WestWind Church held its first worship service at the Shady Grove Elementary School in Keller on September 11, 1994. The Rev. Ken McKenzie, minister of music, and the Rev. Sue Ellen Hearns, minister of pastoral care, joined the staff.

Within two years WestWind Church was self-supporting and had accumulated over $50,000 in a building fund without ever having asked for a donation.

A capital campaign, headed by congregational members Jeff Eizenga and David Kirkman brought in an additional $270,000 before our groundbreaking ceremony on August 6, 2000. With great joy our congregation moved from our home in the school to our first building. We held our first worship service in the new building on Easter Sunday, April 15, 2001.

Formal dedication ceremonies of WestWind's new building were held April 29th, 2001. Former members of the Magnolia Avenue Christian Church along with WestWind's family and friends honored the former Magnolia congregation with the planting of two Magnolia trees on WestWind's front lawn.
